Terms of Service
Last updated · 6 September 2026
Who you are dealing with
These terms govern your use of the Sheeps iPhone app and this website. Your contract for the software itself is with the operator named in the Imprint. Your contract for any purchase is with Apple, who is the merchant of record for every subscription and every top-up.
What Sheeps is, and is not
Sheeps generates audio stories intended to help you relax and drift off. It is a wellness product. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and nothing in it should be taken as medical advice. If you suspect a sleep disorder, see a doctor.
Do not listen while driving or operating machinery. The stories are designed to make you sleepy, and they are good at it.
Your device is your account
There is no username and no password. Access is bound to a secret held on your device. This is deliberate — it is why we can run without knowing who you are — but it has a consequence worth stating plainly: if you lose the device or delete the app without restoring, your stories are not recoverable. Your purchases are, through Restore Purchases, because Apple holds those.
Subscriptions, credits and top-ups
Sheeps is a paid app. Nothing inside it is locked behind a higher tier: every voice, every length and every level of weirdness is available from the first night. What is metered is generation.
- One credit buys ten minutes of finished audio. A story costs the number of credits its length rounds up to — a 30-minute story costs three, a 45-minute story five.
- A monthly subscription grants 10 credits on purchase and 10 again on each renewal. An annual subscription grants 120 at once, which is the same allowance paid for in advance.
- Unused credits roll over for as long as your subscription is active. Credits bought as a top-up do not expire.
- Credits are a unit of account inside the app. They are not money, cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash, and have no value outside Sheeps.
- If a story fails to generate, the credits are returned automatically. If you are charged and get nothing, tell us and we will fix it.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel at any time in the App Store — Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and it does not remove credits you already hold.
Withdrawal and refunds
As a consumer in the EU you have fourteen days to withdraw from a distance contract. For digital content delivered immediately, that right lapses once delivery has begun with your express consent and your acknowledgement that it does — which is what you give when you buy inside the app and the credits appear at once.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, because Apple took the payment. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can and will help with anything on our side — a story that never arrived, credits that were taken twice — but the money itself goes back the way it came.
How you may use it
The stories generated for you are yours to listen to, personally and privately, for as long as you like. You may not republish them, sell them, put them on a podcast feed or a streaming service, or use them to train a model.
The app, its design, its voices and its artwork remain ours. Do not reverse-engineer the app, hammer the API, or try to generate stories outside it.
Machine-generated content
Every story is written by a language model against a prompt of our design and then checked automatically against your avoid list — twice, once at generation and once before anything is spoken. That check is thorough and it is not infallible. If something reaches you that should not have, tell us; it is a bug and we treat it as one.
Because the stories are generated, two people can receive similar scenes, and no story is guaranteed to be unique.
Availability
We aim to have tonight’s story ready before your bedtime, every night. We do not promise uninterrupted service: providers fail, deploys go wrong, and a phone with no signal cannot fetch anything. Stories already downloaded keep playing offline.
Liability
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and wherever the German Product Liability Act applies. For slight negligence we are liable only where we breach an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of this contract possible in the first place, and then only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract. All other liability is excluded.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription with Apple and delete the app. Deleting everything from inside the app removes your data as described in the Privacy notice. We may suspend access if the API is being abused in a way that threatens the service for everybody else, and we will say why.
Law, and disputes
German law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Changes
We may change these terms — for new features, or when the law does. Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page tells you when the current version began.
